When to Book your Maternity + Newborn Sessions | South Florida Family Photograph

When to inquire

Once you get a positive pregnancy test, duh. Too soon? Probably, but man as soon as you see that positive test it’s soooo hard to not immediately start envisioning all the things. Gender. Names. Nursery theme. & the reason you’re here, the photos. Realistically, I like to suggest you book your maternity + newborn sessions during your second trimester of pregnancy.

Maternity sessions should generally be scheduled between 30-36 weeks. A tip I always like to give my clients is, if you’re having a baby shower, try and line up your maternity session so that it’s about two weeks prior to your shower- that way you can have your photos to display at your shower and they can also be printed for thank you cards!!

When it comes to newborns, I schedule my babies according to their due dates. This is for both Fresh 48 + In Home Lifestyle Newborn sessions. I only accept a limited amount of newborns per month because the truth is babies are unpredictable at times. This allows us a little wiggle room in case baby decides to come a tad bit early or even late. A little on call window if you will, to ensure we can be on baby’s schedule and there won’t be any overlapping bookings.

If you’re anything like me, I want all the sessions- Maternity, Fresh 48, and In Home Lifestyle Newborn! I offer some pretty great savings when you book these sessions together. If you missed it, you can see my investment options here.

How old should my baby be for their Fresh 48 + In Home Lifestyle Newborn sessions?

As obvious as it sounds, a Fresh 48 session is taken within the first 1-2 days of baby’s life and it’s taken at the hospital.

For an in home lifestyle newborn session the ideal time frame is 7-10 days young. Babies are most snuggly and sleepy during their first two weeks of life. During this time it’s easiest to swaddle baby and soothe them to sleep after eating.

If you’ve missed the 7-10 day time frame that doesn’t mean you’ve missed out. Babies grow and change quicker than we like to admit, but there’s no hard and fast rule that says once baby is more than two weeks old they aren’t a good candidate for photos anymore. It just means they may lose their ability to sleep through our session and that’s okay! You should never feel pressured that you missed out on capturing your baby’s fleeting moments. It’s never too late.

Whether baby is 7, 12, 18 or 21 days young, I got you covered.
